Lunar New Year Takeaway Treats From The Deli

Highlights
This year’s takeaway collection once again showcases another handcrafted centrepiece of Lucky Fortune Oranges ($138 nett per cake; 2kg) featuring a lucky set of six ‘mandarin oranges’ of kumquat butter cakes with a vanilla butter cream layer, sitting in a ‘box’ of moist marble cake covered in red decorative fondant, bearing wishes of wealth, happiness and good luck. Other new takeaways include a 14cm diameter buttery pineapple crumble tart Gong Xi ‘Huat’ Cai! ($78 nett per tart; 700g) and the Bountiful Box of Sweet Blessings featuring a stunning collection of 15 assorted petit pastries to celebrate the 15 days of Lunar New Year. Donned in festive designs, these treats comprise of Chocolate Almond Tarts; Pineapple Crumble Tarts, Baked Cheesecakes, Orange Chiboust Cakes and Coffee Vanilla Sponge Cakes.

Highlights from Min Jiang
Brimming with piquant, multi-layered Sichuan flavours, this new mouth-watering Slow-braised Spicy Oxtail with Pickled Mustard and Enoki Mushrooms in Claypot ($254.65 nett for 6 persons) highlights tender oxtail slow-braised for up to 4 hours with aromatics like Sichuan peppercorn, fermented chilli bean paste, star anise, cinnamon sticks, garlic, onions, red chilli, spring onions and pickled mustard greens.

Another impressive new dish for the festive table is the Double-boiled Abalone Soup and Eel Fish Maw with handmade Prawn Dumplings and Minced Pork Balls in Claypot ($265.35 nett for 6 persons), a decadent and flavoursome soup rich in collagen filled with Australian 10-head abalone, eel fish maw, handmade prawn dumplings and minced pork meatballs in a 3-hour simmered chicken broth together with dried sole fish and white radish.

This new one-pot meal, Braised Pork Belly, Meatball with Crabmeat in Beancurd Pockets and Sea Treasures in Claypot ($393.75 nett for 6 persons), is lavished with premium ingredients like Australian 10-head abalone, pork belly, flower mushrooms, dried oysters, dried scallops, sea cucumber, ‘fa cai’ (black moss), Tientsin cabbage and handmade beancurd ‘money bags’ filled with meatballs made with pork belly, crab meat, turnip, prawns and prawn roe.

Perfect for any reunion celebration, Min Jiang at Dempsey’s house speciality Fortune Delight Crispy Silver Hill Duck with Glutinous Rice ($254.65 nett for 8 persons) is renowned for its smooth texture and delicate flavour. Literally Cantonese for ‘fragrant floss’, ‘heung song’ describes the preparation of the duck, which is marinated with soy sauce, cooking wine, ginger, spring onions and star anise, deep-fried to fragrant crisp, then finely shredded to resemble ‘floss’. Best eaten with the fluffy glutinous rice for the maximum enjoyment!
